Funding for places at specialist collegesIf your access needs can be met locally, it may be hard to get funding to go to a specialist college. If they cannot, then the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) has a duty to fund a specialist place, if you are under 19. It can fund places for disabled people aged 19-25 if it wishes. Social Services may pay all or some of the costs of residential college living, if there is a large care component. You can read the LSC’s Funding Guidance: Placement for Learners with Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities at Specialist Colleges 2006/07 document. This will take you out of the artist’s resource site and straight to the document. Click Here. If you want to talk to someone directly, Skill have a freephone helpline that is run twice a week: Phone them on freephone 0800 328 5050, or on 020 7657 2337 (this is not a freephone number) or textphone 0800 068 2422. You can email advisers on info@skill.org.uk.
