Why is the artists resource pack site different? In an ideal world, a disabled artist would be just like any other artist. Unfortunately, we don’t live in an ideal world. Deaf and disabled people are still prevented from getting access to information, training and support. Why? If we follow the social model of disability, it’s not because we have an impairment, but because the individuals and organisations who do have the knowledge, produce the information, provide the training and offer the support don’t always think about making it accessible for us. Some artists get a lot of their information and knowledge from being at the right place at the right time - networking, following up contacts, hanging out in the right venues, being introduced to other people who can help. Some Deaf and disabled artists find this more difficult. Why? Often because of inaccessible venues, lack of accessible transport, issues with communication and a lack of accessible information… This site aims to help Deaf and disabled artists get hold of information that they might have missed. You might have been able to access lots of it before – if so, great! You can help other Deaf and disabled artists by helping us develop and update the site. Just email us with the things you think we have missed info@shapearts.org.uk
